Obituary for Elizabeth "Jill" F. Humphrey

Elizabeth “Jill” F. Humphrey

On Friday, November 1, 2019, Elizabeth "Jill" Humphrey of Whitesboro, NY, loving wife and mother of five children, passed away at age 78.

Jill was born on May 4, 1941 to Martin J. Fitzgerald, Sr. and Winifred White Fitzgerald in Utica, NY. She attended St. Francis High School and the Utica School for Practical Nurses. She was a member of St. Paul's Catholic Church, Whitesboro, NY.

She is survived by her husband, Robert J. Humphrey, Sr., who she married in 1969. She will be missed by her five children: Ellen (Ronald) Geitter, Mary Humphrey, Megan (David) Lape, Robert (Shelly) Humphrey Jr., and Karen (Mark) Pauley. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, who she loved dearly: Brynn, Cassidy, Noah, and Shea Lape; Jonathan Force, Trey, Ian and Ryann Pauley; Brandon Smith and Benjamin Humphrey. She is also survived by her three brothers: Gerald (Anne) Fitzgerald, Martin "Rusty"(Patricia) Fitzgerald, and Timothy (Mary Ellen) Fitzgerald. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews as well as cousins and friends who meant so much to her.

There was never a dull moment with Jill. Everyone that she chatted with knew that they had her undivided attention. Every one of her grandchildren knew they were her favorite, and they knew if there was good news to share, Nana would be the most excited. It didn’t matter if there were 10 kids running through the house shooting Nerf guns, and a holiday meal to prepare, Nana would still be entertaining with her stories of the day or stories from holidays long past while dodging bullets. She made a room come alive and had a knack for finding humor in everything. No one left Nana’s house without a hug, a kiss, a full belly, and a good-bye “be good and talk to you soon.” She loved whole-heartedly and doted on her husband. She made her house everyone’s second home. There was always room at the table and a hot cup of coffee, snacky-poos, and plenty of Nana-isms like “that’s the way the mop flops”, “is that a newie?”, “thata” and “what are we going to do with you?” Most importantly there was always a lot of fun, love, and laughter.

Calling hours will be Monday, November 4th, from 4-7PM at Dimbleby Funeral Homes Inc. 40 Main St. Whitesboro, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 am on Tuesday, November 5th, 2019 at St. Paul's Catholic Church, Whitesboro, NY. Burial will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Whitesboro, NY.

The family would like to thank Dr. Atul Butala and his staff, the staff of CMI and Hospice, Palliative Care of Oneida County, and Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center for the care they showed Jill.

Friends may consider making a donation to St. Jude Children's Hospital, or remembering her with Catholic Mass Cards in lieu of flowers.
