Natalie Cholawka 83, of Utica, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 26, 2018 at St. Luke’s Home in New Hartford.

She was born on April 29, 1935 in Augustow, Poland a daughter of the late Peter and Olga (Studenska) Jarmak. In 1951 she came to America with her parents and settled in Utica. She was a graduate of Proctor High School.

In 1954 she was united in marriage to John Peckham and from this union she was blessed with two children. Mr. Peckham died in 1995. In 1978 she married Peter Cholawka a blessed union of over 22 years, Mr. Cholawka died in 2000.

At one time Mrs. Cholawka was employed with General Electric on Broad St. in Utica. She later accepted a position with the UFCW Local One in Utica, a job she truly loved and enjoyed. She retired from UFCW in 1998 after 26 years of dedicated service.

She was a very active member of St. Volodymyr the Great Ukrainian Catholic Church in Utica where she was involved in many of the Church’s activities including cooking and the Church festivals. She was the head of the Sisterhood of St. Olga, an active member of the Ukrainian National Women’s League of America, and a member of the Beshida.

Natalie was a very loving wife, mother and grandmother who cherished the time that she spent with her family. She was a very intelligent lady who spoke several languages. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, cooking, baking and spending time at her camp in Lowville.

She is survived by her children, a son Jeffrey Peckham and his wife Connie, of Utica, a daughter Roxanne Broadbent and her husband Gary, of Poland, NY. She leaves her cherished grandchildren, Danielle Crawford, Evan Van Valkenburg and his wife Beverly, Natalie Robertello and her husband Michael, Alexandra Peckham, David Ciccone, Suzanne Young, and Jason Ciccone. She also leaves many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Last but not least she leaves her beloved canine companion “Daisy”. She was predeceased by a brother Walter Jarmak, and a sister Olga Wojtowycz.

The family wishes to sincerely thank the staff of St. Luke’s Home Rehab, Barton Place in Rome and Hospice & Palliative Care for the wonderful care complemented by true compassion that was given to Natalie and her family during her illness. Also a special thanks to her granddaughter Alexandra for the care that she gave to her grandmother over the last six months.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:00 AM at St. Volodymyr the Great Ukrainian Catholic Church 4 Cottage Place in Utica. Interment will follow in St. Volodymyr Cemetery in Whitesboro. Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Dimbleby Funeral Homes Inc. Forty Main St. in Whitesboro. Parastas Service will be at 6:30 PM on Thursday at the funeral home.
