Robert W. Nolan

Robert W. Nolan 92, of Rome and formerly of Westmoreland passed away peacefully on Monday, October 7, 2019 at The Grand Rehabilitation and Nursing at Rome.

He was born on May 2, 1927 in Utica the son of the late Thomas and Margaret (Walsh) Nolan. He attended Clayville Schools, then Rome Schools. He was a World War II Veteran who served with honor in the United States Army from 1945 to 1948. Upon his return from the Army he graduated from the Simmons School of Embalming in Syracuse and became a New York State Licensed Funeral Director.

On November 27, 1948 he was united in marriage to Patricia Brower a blessed union of over 57 years filled with much love and mutual devotion. Mrs. Nolan passed away on March 30, 2006.

Mr. Nolan was a licensed funeral director who owned and operated the Nolan Funeral Home in Chadwicks. He also owned and operated the Greyhound Bus Line Agency in Utica.

He was a member of Annunciation Church in Clark Mills, a past member of the Elks Club, former member of the American Legion, he also was a past Chairmen of the Westmoreland Democrat Club.

He is survived by his children, Kathy Mathews, Deborah (Mike) Smith, Michael (Sandra) Nolan, Marybeth (Apostolos) Doukas, Peggy Nolan, Patty (Ed) Novak, Joseph (Mary) Nolan, Barbara Nolan, James (Sheila) Nolan, and John (Alicia) Nolan. He also leaves 27 grandchildren, and many great grandchildren. He leaves a brother T. Edward (Marilyn) Nolan. He was predeceased by a son William P. Nolan, a granddaughter, Erica Nolan, and a sister Mary Lourdes Schaffner.

Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:30 AM at Annunciation Church in Clark Mills where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Interment with Military Honors will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Westmoreland. There are no public calling hours, the family will receive visitors at the conclusion of the funeral mass. Arrangements are with the Dimbleby Funeral Homes 40 Main St. Whitesboro.
