William Humphreys Robbins 93, of West Winfield passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at the Masonic Care Community, in Utica NY.

He was born on January 8, 1925 in Rome, NY the son of the late William Elmer and Mildred (Humphreys) Robbins. He graduated from Rome Free Academy in 1942. He attended Rochester Mechanic Institute to study precision instruments from June, 1942 to January 1943. He enlisted in the Army Air Force in January of 1943. He attended Haverford College to become a Meteorological Weather Expert. After an illness and spending time in a military hospital in Pennsylvania, he was Honorably Discharged in 1943. After his recovery, he was employed at General Cable from 1944 to 1945. He attended Cornell University from March, 1945 to May 1948, and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering. At Cornell he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity. After graduation he was employed by the Bailey Meter Company, a subsidiary of Babcock & Wilcox and lived in Painesville Ohio. In 1950 he transferred to the New York City area and lived in Fanwood, New Jersey for the remainder of his career. Following his retirement from Bailey Meter he was employed at Ebasco Services Consulting Engineers in the World Trade Center, retiring from that position in January of 1990. After that retirement he moved to Fayetteville, NY. He was married to Ruby Kline of Rome, NY from 1946 until her death in 1994.

Bill was an acolyte at Zion Church in Rome while growing up, and was a lector at Grace Church in Waterville for 10 years. His interests were tennis and bowling, and he was an active member of the library board in Fanwood and a member of the American Legion.

On January 11, 1997, Bill was united in marriage to Alma Will Reader at Grace Episcopal Church in Waterville, NY. They lived in West Winfield, NY and Hobe Sound Florida.

Bill is survived by his wife Alma Robbins; his brother, John Robbins of New Mexico; his sons, Dr. William J. Robbins of Scotia, NY and David Robbins of Old Greenwich, CT: a daughter, Virginia Planer of Los Angeles, CA; grandchildren, James, Nathaniel, Caroline, Nicholas and Jessica; great grandchildren, Preston and Lucy. He leaves his stepsons, Robert and Julie Reader of West Winfield and Jeffrey and Rhonda Reader of East Syracuse; step-grandchildren, Heather, Aaron, Bryan, and Kyle; step great-grandchildren, Reed and Vivianne.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at 11:00 AM at the Dimbleby Funeral Homes Inc. 365 West Main St. in West Winfield with the Rev. Heather Benson officiating. Interment will be in the spring in the West Winfield Cemetery. There will be a luncheon at the funeral home immediately following the Memorial Mass.
